Cherry Blossom
The Cherry blossom was associated with the cycle of life, i.e. the cycle of life and death. Cherries, on the other hand, became a symbol of undying vitality as they survived the crushing tsunami to re-emerge and blossom into their unprecedented and radiant beauty.
Cherry blossoms are a symbol of love. Fertility (cherry blossoms were once used as contraception), birth (cherry blossoms are still used in love rituals) and death in clouds of beauty (Japanese samurai decorated their swords with Japanese cherries.)
Who hasn't been kissed under a cherry blossom tree? For those of us who haven't completed this spring "fertility ritual". It is said that an unkissed woman will wither under a cherry blossom tree within a year.
