Ginger bread

Gingerbread dough is often cut into different shapes: round gingerbreads are made, very common motifs are gingerbread hearts, animals or even a pint. After baking, these gingerbreads are decorated with coloured toppings or chocolate. Decorated gingerbread is one of the types of traditional Christmas cookies.

History: Traditionally, gingerbread was produced in the Hanseatic cities as an expression of their success and contact with the world. Given the price of spices, gingerbread was a great luxury. From the Hanseatic cities, gingerbread was widely exported to the interior. The tradition of making gingerbread still persists in Bremen, Munich, Nuremberg, Amsterdam, Liège, Klaipėda, Gdańsk and Toruń. Pardubice gingerbread is the most famous in the Czech Republic. The recipe for it originally comes from Hradec Králové, but it was bought by the then owner of the Pardubice manor Vilém z Pernštejn
