Violet leaf
Violet leaves are oval to heart-shaped, serrated with long petioles. The stem is very short with creeping underground and above-ground rooting shoots.
Occurrence: It grows on the edges of forests in the shade and along roads, in cooler undergrowth and also in meadows that are not in direct sunlight.
History: The ancient Greeks used the violet leaves for its purported sedative effects and ability to strengthen the heart. In ancient times, the Romans tried to use violet to prolong alcohol intoxication and therefore wore a violet wreath on their heads as a precaution.
✅Scented violet leaves are rich in provitamin A and vitamin C, contain a large amount of mineral salts and, like its flowers, also mucus.
✅Scented violet "Violka" is, like most of its relatives, edible.
✅We can add the leaves to mixed salads, but we can also boil them.
✅In the southern states of the USA, a thick soup is prepared from violet leaves.
