Salt
The salt we know as "table salt" is a chemical compound known as NaCl (sodium chloride). It occurs in nature in the form of the mineral halite, or rock salt. Sodium chloride is composed of approximately 40% sodium (Na) and 60% chloride by weight. (Cl), often with 2-3% admixture of chlorides and sulphates .From this also follows the conversion of sodium and salt content in food: salt = sodium x 2.5.
Salt is a very important compound required for the vital functions of most organisms.
The sentence "without salt there would be no life" is by no means an exaggeration.
