Pineapple

The crested pineapple, or just pineapple for short, is a pantropical plant from the bromeliad family native to tropical South America. It is a perennial tropical herb with leaves in a ground rosette, which is grown mainly for the fruit called pineapple in the tropics and warm subtropics. It is delicious and yet so healthy.

The pineapple came to us from America. For the first time, pineapple reached Europe in 1493. At that time, the navigator Christopher Columbus brought it from his travels on the island of Guadeloupe. The sweet exotic taste of the fruit enchanted the palates of the Spanish royals, but at that time no one had yet come up with a way to turn pineapple into an attainable delicacy. It was not until 1720 that it began to be mass-grown in greenhouses. The Industrial Revolution brought pineapple cultivation to a high level thanks to regulated heating using steam boilers.
