Mahogany
Mahogany is considered a symbol of luxury. This is not only due to its reddish-brown colour and high price, but also due to its exceptional properties. Its designation for true mahogany is considered to be the wood of trees of the genus "svietenie", also called American mahogany.
The wood of the related African genus "khaja" is known as African mahogany.
Occurrence: Mahogany is a type of tropical tree that grows in rainforests such as the Amazon. It is the national tree of the Dominican Republic and Belize. The trees from which mahogany is obtained also grow in the tropical regions of Australia, Africa and Asia. They are evergreen or deciduous trees and shrubs. The trees sometimes reach a height of up to 40 m, the diameter of the trunk can reach up to 3 m.

Description: Fresh wood is red in colour, which later turns reddish brown. Polished wood shines. Mahogany is known for its hardness, it is not subject to rotting or worming.
