Chypre
What does it mean to say chypre? The chypre scents are mysterious, elegant and sophisticated. It is much more than a family of fragrances, it is in today's sense a "fragrance concept" built on a single perfume. In 1917, the famous perfumer Francois Coty introduced a revolutionary "women's perfume-aromatic fragrance." The aromatic family of scents might seem a bit misleading. The word aromatic can refer to anything that has a scent, an aroma. However, in the perfume nomenclature, this group is defined quite clearly. Chypre is the French name for the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, where, according to legend, the goddess of beauty and love Aphrodite was born, and oak moss also comes from Cyprus, the basis of all chypre scents. The phenomenal success of the Chypre perfume inspired most other perfume houses to create their own model of a similar fragrant composition. Various variations of chypre scents range from fruit compositions through floral and green tones to aromatic and leather scents. But there was only one original.
